Welcome to my personal website

Hello and welcome! I am Abel Souza, a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Laboratory for Advanced System Software, within the College of Information & Computer Sciences at University of Massachusetts Amherst. We are working towards sustainable and efficient ways to design, architect, and manage cloud and edge platforms towards zero-carbon emissions.

The main challenges of my research lie on how to efficiently apply predictive analytics methods to process and model vast amounts of data in order to holistically understand resource management, i.e, how many and what type of resources to allocate, and when and where to deploy them. All these while constraining and controlling the amount of emissions released into the atmosphere.

You can check the publications and/or the projects pages to see what I have been up to. Some recent news and teaching can also be found. For any other question, just ping me at any time.

PhD Thesis

Before being a Postdoc, I worked as a PhD researcher in the Autonomous Distributed Systems Lab., within the Department of Computer Science at UmeƄ University (Sweden) where I was doing research in Data Analytics for Resource Management in High Performance (HPC) and cloud datacenters.

I defended my PhD thesis in Spring'2020. For more information about the thesis itself, click here.
